I'm sorry. I know how much it hurts. Some of my family refused to come to my wedding too. It's not right. It's not loving. And it's not fair. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do about it either. It really was their loss though. I hope some day your relationship with them can be healed.

What is your family's favorite Christmas tradition?
by LovesDubs ini was a methodist for the first 30 years of my life, a jw in the middle 13 and then from 1997 have returned to my christmas roots, albeit with a different perspective about what "religion" means to me.
but christmas is a big package which to me extends beyond the birth of jesus.
ive had to re-start, and invent new, traditions for my kids and i as we are alone down here in florida most christmases, and all our relatives who are down here are jws.

I used to put up a beautiful tree in our home every year and just loved it. But now that we have our two boys (both cats), I know they would just dump it over, chew up the ornaments, and have to have a trip to the vet. So we make due with an advent wreath and celebrate at relatives' homes instead.

When I was leaving "the truth" a number of years ago, I had several friends that left about the same time. One of them told me that from now on he was calling the JW religion "the lie." LOL.

JWs and National Oaths of Allegiance Expose' by Marvin Shilmer-Please Read
by AndersonsInfo inthe following three paragraphs are part of a startling new essay written by a well-respected poster on jwd.
he spent much time and money to gather proof of duplicity on the part of watch tower leaders.
marvin shilmer (not his real name) has given permission for me to put his entire essay on my website, www.watchtowerdocuments.com.

Thanks for the letter from Lorene Stanley.
At first I thought that they have one set of rules for the average JW and another for themselves. But now I'm realizing the principle is the same. Whatever promotes the benefit of the Watchtower Society, in their mind, is their true guiding principle.
It seems, outwardly, that they contradict themselves when they tell JWs not to salute the flag, but then swear an oath of allegiance to the constitution. Or when they used to tell JW children they couldn't have vaccinations, even if required to go to school, but then got them themselves so they could travel abroad for WT purposes. But in reality the positions promote the same purpose. They pursue whatever they feel best serves the interests of the WT at the time.
Drawing attention to the organization for its outrageous views, lawsuits, persecution, and taking clear positions against those of other religions for the sake of it, all served to advance the interests of the WTS in the eyes of the leadership. No position, regardless of the consequences, was out of bounds.
They were, and still are, more than happy to sacrifice their followers to the god of the Watchtower. -

Jesus said of the Pharisees, "They bind up heavy loads and put them upon the shoulders of men, but they themselves are not willing to budge them with their finger." Matthew 23:4.
I see no difference between pledging allegiance to the constitution and pledging allegiance to the flag. I wonder if this policy was started as another publicity stunt/ploy to gain attention, like when Rutherford instructed Witnesses to go into towns where they knew they would get arrested so they would have court cases.
It also reminds me of their stance on all things pagan. They say it's wrong to celebrate holidays because of their pagan roots, yet it's okay to wear wedding rings because no one remembers their pagan roots.
I think their policies are less about principles, and more about the perceived benefits to the organization of their various positions. -

Do you have a need to prove JWs wrong?
by LouBelle ini remember when i first left i wanted to tell every one i knew how bad/wrong/indoctrinated the jws were.
i was angry at having been deceived for so many years.
now they are just like every other religion if you get to the core of it.

I don't go around looking for opportunities (unless you consider posting here one), but I do think it's important to let the truth be known about the Watchtower. They are an abusive, manipulative and deceptive organization that hurts people, and I think they should be exposed for that. The more everyone knows about them, and other cults like them, the less they will be able to hurt others. And if the word gets out far and wide enough, the WT will be forced to change their tactics.

I finally said it...I don't like jw's
by kzjw ini'm vacation and watched as my wife headed out for her piosneering this past monday...i was pissed, because i'm here, but she'd rather be out there, hawking the wares of the borg as a non-paid employee.
i stewed in the house for 3-4 hours, angry that i took vows with this woman, but she essentially is forsaking those vows for her "friends", when she knows i don't care for it.
well the tolerance finally wore off!

There are some good books out on how to help your loved one out of a cult. You might find "Releasing the Bonds, Empowering People to Think for Themselves" by cult expert Steven Hassan helpful.

Latest United Nations-End of Religion-End of World alert
by Questions1 init has been awhile since i've posted anything, but i got this e-mail from someone who is on the edge of falling out of the borg due to mental stress.
i've attempted to verify the information, even called the united nations, but haven't gotten to a person who can say if this meeting happened.
my gut says this is a contrived experience with many details just not adding up...but you never know.

As the previous posters have shown, this story is obviously untrue, and it's sad that many JWs will readily believe it. What is even more sad and unbelievable is that the WT teaches that the UN will destroy religion at all.
In 1948 the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It clearly states in Article 18 that, "Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance."
The United Nations has sections that deal specifically with human rights issues. Jehovah's Witnesses have appealed to these bodies when their rights to freely practice their religion have been violated. An example of this occurred when JWs seeking to avoid a military service requirement in Korea appealed to the UN. The UN sided with the JWs in defending their right to freedom of worship. This information can be confirmed on UN websites.
It is preposterous to believe that the UN will somehow "turn on" religion, yet the WT continues to predict this to its followers. -

Aren't we as a group smart enough to bring the whole thing down?"
by BonaFide ini realize that i was stuck believing in jw almost all my life.
and that each person has to see the light for themselves.. but it was partly the hypocrisy, partly the internet, partly my brother, ex-jw, and partly thinking on my own that did it.. there are smart enough people on the board, is there anything we can do to bring the whole jw thing down?.
there must me some way, some thing, we can do.

Mrs. Fiorini
I don't think the WT is going to "go down." I do think it will be forced to change. And that's all I really want anyway. They have a right to exist and believe whatever they want. But they don't have a right to keep hurting people.
In my opinion the main external pressures the organization faces come from three areas: apostates and others exposing their hypocritical and abusive tactics, history, etc.; lawsuits from private parties, as well as governments; and financial pressures resulting from economic and market conditions. We are doing our part every time we post information exposing the WT for what it is and helping others to leave.
Rumor has it there are internal pressures as well. Power struggles within the organization, and a general failure of their theology, leave them without a clear direction to proceed. All in all, the pressures are piling up, and I expect that the WT will be forced into making many changes in order to remain a viable organization.
On the other hand, maybe paralysis and a lack of vision will result in failure to make the necessary adjustments, and they will crash and burn. Or at least languish, and bleed members and money. Time will tell. And whether on this sight or others, former members and interested persons will be here to watch and document it all.
